Ravioli with tuccu (meat and tomato sauce), Ristorante Il Genovese, Liguria

Ristorante Il Genovese, Genoa, dinner

Menu from a dinner at Ristorante Il Genovese, Genoa, to sample typical and traditional Genovese dishes:

Variety of fried foods “alla Genovese” (frisceu, panissa, tripe, gattafin)

Ravioli with tuccu (meat and tomato sauce)

Ravioli with walnut and cheese sauce

Testaroli pancakes with Genoese pesto

Cod fish “alla Genovese” with potatoes, taggiasca olives and pine nuts

Rabbit alla Ligure with taggiasca olives and pine nuts

Fine biscuits: Baci di Dama, Canestrelli, Stroscia

Ristorante Il Genovese is a real neighbourhood restaurant. It’s within walking distance from the old town but it’s certainly not a spot you’d come across if you were a tourist.

But I was glad to have gone there because they had a rustic but wholesome menu with plenty of stews and pasta dishes that made the most of local ingredients. The stews were flavoursome but it was definitely the pastas and raviolis that stole the show.
